Carolyn McIntyre has always been passionate about sports and physical activity. She was a competitive hockey player growing up in Montreal, Quebec, and went on to play varsity hockey for Brock University. Athletics, movement and understanding how the human body works for maximum performance drove her to complete a Master of Science in Physiotherapy. Following graduation, she worked in the public sector, providing in-home physiotherapy services to geriatric patients for 14 years.
Carolyn's love for dogs started when she was 13 years old with her first dog, Casey, a Wheaten Terrier who became her first performance dog in agility and obedience. With Casey, Carolyn started her dog training and performance career.
In 2014, Carolyn welcomed home her first non-Terrier breed, an Australian Shepherd named Quinn. Early on, Quinn was a wild girl who lacked self-preservation; no obstacle was too high to climb or run through. At that moment, Carolyn started to look into injury prevention strategies in dogs - surely there had to be something out there, and luckily, there was. Carolyn quickly realized that she wanted to combine her love for physiotherapy, dog training and athletics to create a unique role to help other dog owners prevent injuries in their dogs.
That same year, Carolyn began her specialized training in canine rehabilitation at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. In 2016, she founded McIntyre Canine Rehabilitation (MCR) to restore, maximize, and improve the physical capacity of all dogs, from puppies to seniors to performance dogs.
Initially in her MCR career, Carolyn created a mobile service to travel to clients' homes, trial/show sites and training centres to complete comprehensive canine assessments and deliver practical workshops geared toward active dogs and canine athletes. She wanted canine physio to be accessible to as many people as possible.
As the business quickly grew and traveling became too time-consuming, she opened the McIntyre Rehabilitation Clinic in 2020 in Erin, Ontario, as a one-stop shop for canine physio.
In 2019 and 2020, Carolyn was asked to be the canine physio for the IFCS Team Canada competing in the Netherlands - this was her first world team experience, and it left a significant mark! This experience ignited her desire to become a competitor one day, and it also gave her the idea to start her online business, MCR Elite Coaching, to reach an even larger target market and to spread the benefits of canine fitness and remote rehab.
