Grey is an absolute bundle of joy. This little guy exudes confidence and has a happy-go-lucky personality with zero fear of the world. I have to give a huge shoutout to my breeder for raising such a level-headed pup!
Life with Grey has been busy, but what's not to love about an active, spirited puppy? Grey is my fourth puppy in five years. While some might think that's a bit crazy (and I won't deny it), each dog has come into my life for a reason. "Life is short—get the puppy!" 🤭 When it comes to training, my goal is always to create a balanced pup. I strive for a dog with the drive and willingness to work, paired with the impulse control to think and learn. It's a careful balancing act of weekly training to ensure all the marks are met. As many of you know, my heart belongs to the sport of agility. Interestingly, none of my six dogs were purchased specifically for agility. Most of them came from conformation kennels rather than performance-based kennels. You might wonder why. Think of it like buying a house: you can renovate the interior, but you can't change the lot. With dogs, you can build drive and motivation, but you can't alter their inherent structure. The physical structure of my dogs is crucial for their ability to withstand the demands of agility. 🧱A well-structured pup is the first step towards injury prevention. For the first year of training, I focus heavily on foundation behaviours for life, in the canine gym, and sport. Regardless of what Grey ends up doing (though I suspect he’ll love agility), I want my dogs to be well-rounded and capable of handling whatever life throws at them. One key aspect of training I start right away is in the canine gym. This isn't about circuit training or inducing fatigue; it's about: ✅Teaching Grey how to use his body, ✅Building our relationship, ✅Having focused one-on-one time (essential in a multi-dog household), ✅Growing his confidence, ✅Teaching him how to earn reinforcement, ✅And most importantly, having a ton of fun!
